Tonsils are the two small lumps of soft tissues, one on either side at the back of the throat. It becomes an inflammation of the throat when they get swollen and sore. Although, you can see your tonsils with the help of a mirror by opening your mouth and sticking out your tongue. A tonsil traps some germs that make you sick. Another name of Tonsillitis is tonsillopharyngitis but sometimes called a sore throat.

After diagnosing tonsils your doctor needs to determine the infection result from a virus or bacteria (strep throat).

How Strep Throat Tonsils Diagnosed?

Strep throat tonsils are diagnosed with the help of a throat culture. Moreover, This test is called a strep test.  A throat culture test is a simple test, which checks for the number of specific bacteria in your throat. To do this test following are the steps should be followed:

  • A doctor will be swipe the back of your throat with a long cotton swab, which collects the saliva and cells.
  • Collect the bacterial cells. The test is a rapid step test. The result is ready in 10 to 15 minutes.
  • If the test is positive, so the test will detect bacteria. Your doctor will recommend an antibiotic that treats strep throat.
  • If the test is negative the rapid strep test will not detect bacteria, a doctor will send the sample away to a lab for more testing. This is the longer lab test 2to 3 days time duration.
  • If the lab result is again negative. It means that it is viral tonsillitis, not bacterial tonsils.

What Treatment of Viral Tonsils:

 The symptoms are the same in viral and bacterial tonsillitis. But it can be difficult for their treatment.  Relive of the symptoms of viral tonsillitis. Some recommendation are:

  • Plenty of rest
  • The counter pain killer like ibuprofen or acetaminophen
  • Stay hydrated
  • Throat lozenges

What Is The Treatment Of Strep Throat?

Strep throat (tonsillitis) is caused due to bacterial infection. It is treated with the help of antibiotic medication. However, Antibiotics are required as per precaution from your doctor consult. You will be taking antibiotics orally for about 10 days. The most commonly used strep throat antibiotic is.

  • Penicillin
  • Clindamycin
  • Cephalosporin

What Side do Effects Cause Antibiotic in Strep Throat?

Antibiotic treat strep throat tonsillitis but sometimes caused side effect include:

  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Headache
  • Upset stomach
  • Vaginal infection
  • Yeast infection
  • Kidney infection


Tonsils is a common painful disease. It is difficult to treat so, drinking warm water and protect from a throat infection.
